Mark Howard
Farwell, Texas
Mark Howard farms corn and cotton in Hartley County, Texas. Howard’s family has been farming for three generations, and he took his place on the farm in 1982. His father W.D., his brother Greg, and their business partner Kirk Fly also work on the farm with Howard.
Farming is an integral part of Howard’s life and he has truly enjoyed his work in agriculture.
“It is what I love to do,” Howard said. “I enjoy the ability to work with my family, as well as the lifestyle that farming allows me to have.” “There are many opportunities in agriculture, both in the present and in the future.”
In addition to his involvement with TCPB, Howard is a board member of Parmer County Cotton Growers. He has been a member of this organization since its establishment in 1999.
Although the agricultural industry faces a number of challenges, property rights and water conservation are two major issues that Howard views as important.
When asked what serving on the corn board means to him, Howard said it helps him stay connected with issues that he might not see on a daily basis. He also adds that TCPB allows him to learn about rising problems in the industry and obtain enough background knowledge to seek a solution. Howard has specific goals for serving on the board, which he hopes to achieve.
“I would like to help maintain corn as a viable crop in Texas and ensure that corn production will be there for future generations to utilize,” Howard said.
Howard has been married to his wife Robin for 26 years and they have two sons attending Texas Tech University, Bryce and Mason.
