Eagle Lake, Texas
Gary Obenhaus, farms in Colorado County, Texas. Being born and raised on a farm has given Obenhaus an innate tie to the corn industry. Along with farming corn, he grows cotton, soybeans and hay. Obenhaus also raises cattle.
Obenhaus is an active member in TCPB and CPAT. Both organizations help the corn industry thrive by bringing to light pressing issues that corn producers face.
As a TCPB director, Obenhaus serves on the Advertising, Education and Promotion Committee, whose goal is to spread accurate news about Texas corn. The committee also communicates how Texas corn has many uses and benefits for consumers.
"There are so many uses and bi-products of corn," Obenhaus said, "there are many key components to having this job, but educating producers and consumers about the corn industry is one that should be a top priority."
Obenhaus encourages others to pay close attention to the details that create a successful and profitable farming operation.
"Make finance and marketing expertise a high priority in the many skills needed to make it in this industry," Obenhaus said.
Aside from the daily farm operations and his activities with Texas Corn Producers Board, Obenhaus is also involved with his local church.
